Bernard Lefebre is known in Zulte and the surrounding area for his beautiful garden centre. Together with his wife, they have been building a good name and reputation for years and they have more than succeeded. Both garden and animal lovers (including pigeon lovers) can go to them for all advice, food and supplies.

But in addition to running a busy garden centre, Bernard is also a fanatic pigeon lover. As the son of the well-known tandem Lefebre-Dhaenens, it could hardly be otherwise. Bernard: “Here, pigeon racing is perfectly combined with the business and the family. I only play every 14 days, so 1 WE is dedicated to the family and the other weekend there is pigeon racing. This applies to the old, yearling and young pigeons. Now I have to say that the game with the young pigeons is not number 1 here. For us, this is the ideal solution and it works that way because in recent seasons I have had nothing to complain about in terms of performance.”

Widowers

“My father Roger’s pigeons are the basis of my current colony” Bernard continues “and I have supplemented these with direct pigeons from Raes Willy, De Meulemeester Johan, Eric De Clercq and Willy Baert.

I prefer to race widowers and for this I have a team of 30 old and 35 yearling cocks. For the first year I also have 10 hens that are raced on total widowhood. The widowers – together with the 20 pairs of breeders – did winter breeding and afterwards they were no longer paired. Only during training did my wife come half-baked several times a week so that the widowers quickly walked inside when they came home.

In terms of feed I use the “Lefebre mixtures” which I compose and mix myself. First a sports mixture is given and then a low-protein mixture is added to the feeding trough and during the week that they are not are played, “Super Top” (light mixture without peas) is fed. The last days before the flight, sports mixture is fed again.

Medically, everything is kept as limited as possible. In addition to the yellow drops (against tricho -10ml per kg of feed), “Daflor” and “Trio Mix” (Red Animals – a mix of herbs, essential amino acids and organic acids) are also regularly provided and upon returning home there are electrolytes in the drinking water.

“Parro”

A true topper wins Tulle national. “Parro” (B22-4216300) also won the 3rd national Limoges against 13,016 old pigeons a month ago. He failed at Cahors and now he showed everyone his tail at Tulle.

“Parro” is a September youngster…once bred to sell online, but was rejected. Bernard let “Parro” grow at his leisure and see what a pleasure he now brings his owner.

In terms of descent, “Parro” comes from the very best that the Lefebre colony has to offer. His father is “Opara” (became 2nd Nat. Ace Pigeon KBDB Allround ’22 – won 3rd nat. Limoges 17,356p. and 19th nat. Tulle 9,763p., also 1st Argenton and 2nd Orleans - 100% De Clercq Erik) x “Daughter Eva” (original Luc and Hilde Sioen via Blomme Filip. “Eva” won 9th nat. Ace Pigeon KBDB great middle distance and won 25th, 37th, 45th, 52nd, 52nd and 82nd national)

And Bernard ends… “my father raced strongly for so many years and never won a national and look… now I can celebrate my 2nd national victory. Who would have ever thought”
